Not a Destiheller, not even really a Destiel shipper, but this picture rips my goddamn heart out. It’s probably why I keep it on every device I have. Nothing fictional has ever given me more emotion than this fanart.
You don’t need to ship Destiel to know that Cas’ death would crush him. It’s literally canon. Cas has disappeared/died and every time Dean is so, so hurt. Even when Cas ruined his relationship with the boys through deceit and betrayal, Dean was so mad at himself because he was still devastated that Cas was gone. He may have not been a good friend, but he was Dean’s. He believed in him and saved him and it was his DESTINY to rescue the righteous man even when Dean never saw himself that way.
“You don’t think you deserve to be saved.”
That line is so inherently Dean that it’s painful to hear now when I rewatch the Season 4 premier. It’s one line, and it’s not even a popular line, but it’s the one line I remember after 12 seasons of Supernatural having been the very definition of Dean Winchester.
This picture is so heartbreaking because it’s Dean fucking Winchester, macho man extraordinaire, the rock and the hard place, the man of his exclusively male family, reduced to a ball on the floor drowning himself in whiskey while wrapped in Cas’ blood-spattered trench coat that he’s worn since day one. Not to mention the one black angel wing feather perched on the shelf. He’s by himself in this dingy room wallowing in grief. Grief is not something one should handle alone. But because of the way he was raised, it’s the only way he knows. Everyone he loves dies, and because it happens so much he feels that he shouldn’t get close to people. Dean blames himself for so much already, it’s impossible to think he doesn’t blame himself for Cas, too. The one person who believed in him and thought he deserved saving died because he got too close to humanity, to Dean, the sporadically regenerating time bomb. To think that he has to deal with all of that plus everything he already has on his shoulders, it’s painful.

Yeah, yeah. The whole, “reblog if you’re in the ___ fandom.” But honestly, lately I’ve fallen in love with this little series and I’m sure many others have as well. I KNOW there are fans of this. I know it has a fandom. However, it still gets a lot of credit and people say, “oh it’s not a fandom, stop trying to make it one.” It’s hard to believe for some, but it has many of the elements a fandom has. Fanart, headcanons, favorite characters, a ship/otp, and we all know this fandom has had it’s little jokes here and there since the beginning. Since the new Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared came out this fandom has grown wildly, (perhaps it may just be Tony’s doing but still), and I would like to see by how much. So let’s see the numbers please. If you’re in love with this series and consider yourself apart of the fandom, tell me. And if you’re interested in joining, hop aboard!
